Mentor Recruitment Rally 2012

Thank you to everyone who helped make the 4th Annual Mentor Recruitment Rally a success! The event was held on January 26th, 2012 at the Shaw’s Center in Brockton. In conjunction with this event, Brockton celebrated its recent award by America’s Promise Alliance as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People. Brockton, a four time 100 Best winner, was recognized for its commitment to education, mentoring and volunteerism. We were honored to have Jordan LaPier, Senior Director of the 100 Best Communities Award, as a Guest at the Rally this year.  Mr. LaPier presented the 100 Best Award to our Promise Ambassadors, the Brockton Youth Council.

Thank you to our M.C.’s for the evening, Megan Goloboy and Ray Yancey, and to our insipirational Keynote Speaker, Edward Jacoubs, Director of Grants and Sponsored Projects at the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.  Through his work at the DA’s Office and beyond, Mr. Jacoubs has impacted the lives of countless numbers of youth, as well as his fellow professionals in the Brockton community and we were excited for him to share his experiences with all of our attendees.  Additionally, we are thankful for the support of Mayor Linda M. Balzotti who welcomed everyone to the event, Pastor Orlando Harris of New Life Christian Church Ministries who offered the Invocation, and the Caring Adults team Chair Jay Miller who called us to action at the close of the Rally.

The evening also featured the presentation of the Promise in Action Award for Exceptional Mentoring. This year, we recognized TWO deserving individuals with this award.  One awardee, recognized by a youth mentee, was Susan Davis, a Big Sister with the Old Colony YMCA’s Big Sister Big Brother program.  Our other awardee was Denise O’Malley, a mentor at the Boys & Girls Club of Brockton, who was recognized by her adult peers in the Brockton community!

Caring adults within and outside the family are powerful factors in protecting young people from negative behaviors.  There are hundreds of young people in the Brockton area who are waiting for mentors-some have been waiting for over three years.  Even if you were not at the Rally, we are recruiting Caring Adults to Keep the Promise all year long.  Click here to find out how YOU can help!
