The President’s Volunteer Service Award

Get on board with service and earn an award from the President of the United States!

Brockton’s Promise is now a Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunter Service Award! The Opportunities to Help Others Promise Team will be giving this award out at our Exceptional Youth Volunteers Service Event on April 14, 2011.

Created in 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation recognizes the valuable contributions that volunteers are making in their communities. The President’s Volunteer Service Award was established as a way to thank Americans who are already making a difference, and to inspire others to engage in service.  This award honors people of all ages, but for our event in April we will specifically be honoring exceptional youth who qualify for this award! Whether you volunteeer at the local hospital, help run a clothing drive, tutor young kids, or assist elderly neighbors with errands, YOU are answering the President’s Call to Service!

What do I need to do?

If you want to be honored with this prestigious award at our Exceptional Youth Service event on April 14, just follow these simple steps:

  • Create an account and profile so that you can track your volunteer hours at: https://www.presidentialserviceawards.gov.  Awards are based on service completed in a calendar year. Don’t worry if you have been volunteering all year and have not been using this tool; you can go back and track hours for events or activities that you already volunteered for!
  • When creating your account, use this RECORD OF SERVICE KEY: RZS-41404. This will connect your profile directly to Brockton’s Promise so that we can stay updated on all the great work you’re doing!
  • In the year 2010, you must have completed at least 50 HOURS OF SERVICE within the past year if you’re under 14.  If you’re 15-24 years old, you must have completed at least 100 HOURS OF SERVICE to receive this honor. For award details visit: http://www.presidentialserviceawards.gov/tg/pvsainfo/dspAboutAwards.cfm
  • Submit your record of service to Brockton’s Promise by MARCH 7th, 2011 and we will present the award to you at our Exceptional Youth Volunteers Event on April 14th!
  • If you haven’t committed enough hours for 2010 but would like to be honored for 2011, start tracking your hours now so that you can be honored in 2012!  Get ideas for service ideas from our volunteer database.
  • Participants must be residents of Brockton who are between the ages of 12 and 24.
