GB2 Give Back…Get Back Volunteer Fair
The Opportunities to Serve Promise Team hosts an annual volunteer fair for youth to explore the various opportunities to get involved in service throughout their community. Evidence shows that youth who volunteer are considerably less likely than their non-volunteering peers to be disconnected from work and school. Over 15 organizations participate in the event to share resources and offer an opportunity for youth to sign up and make a commitment to serving with their organization. This event is a great opportunity for organizations to recruit passionate volunteers, spread their mission, and network with the next generation of Brockton’s young leaders! We know that youth are looking for opportunities to give back to their community, and when the community comes together to support them, the possibilities are endless!
GB2 Give Back…Get Back Conference
The Opportunities to Serve Promise Team hosts an annual conference that invites youth to expand their skills around leadership and service in the community. Youth are given the opportunity to engage in a series of workshops and service opportunities to give back to their community.
Workshop topics have included: “Give it Forward,” “Motivate…Recruit…Retain,” “Facilitating Reflection,” “Leadership in Action,” “Exploring the Leader Within You,” and “What Leadership Means to Me.” As a result of the youth’s participation in service projects at this event, donations to local organizations have included handmade fleece blankets, canned goods, appreciation gifts and thank you cards, as well as dream boxes filled with an array of school supplies.
Mentor Recruitment Rally & Celebration
Since 2009, the Caring Adults Promise Team has hosted an annual Mentor Recruitment Rally & Celebration in Brockton. Each year it brings parents, youth, community members, businesses and non-profit organizations together to both celebrate mentoring and inspire new caring adults to step up and become mentors. We know that mentoring has a powerful effect on all involved, from the staff at non-profits, agencies and schools, to the mentors and the mentees who engage in these relationships. This is our chance to come together as a community to celebrate mentorship and to encourage others to join in supporting our youth!
The event recognizes Exceptional Mentors & Businesses who have shown support or dedication to mentoring in the community. Youth and colleagues have recognized teachers, Big Brothers, foster care parents, social workers and even caring neighbors. There are many different types of mentors who can make an impact in a unique way, and they all deserve our recognition.
