BYC Recruiting More Youth for the 2011 King Day of Service and Leadership!

“Everybody can be great.  Because anybody can serve.  You don’t have to have a college degree to serve.  You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve…. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve.  You only need a heart full of grace.  A soul generated by love. ” ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Brockton Youth Council is gearing up for a day of community service and they are looking for more youth to join them in this great opportunity!   On January 17, 2011, the Massachusetts Promise Fellowship will be partnering with Northeastern University to host the King Day of Service and Leadership. They are inviting young people, college students and adults to spend the day completing either on-campus or off-campus service projects in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. By participating in the day’s workshops and service projects, youth will have the chance to:

  • Create positive outcomes through service!
  • Meet other youth from around Massachusetts!
  • Gain leadership and team-building skills!
  • Have the opportunity to work with college students and professionals who share your interest in service!

Whether you want to paint a mural, work with elementary children, or help get out the vote, there is a project for everyone!  To see a list of workshop and service project options, click HERE!

The BYC will be taking a bus from Brockton to Boston the morning of January 17, 2011. Reserve your spot on the bus today! The event will last from 9Am-4PM, with registration from 8AM-9AM.  To sign up and participate in the day’s activities,  please click HERE!  Pre-registration is required by January 12th!

If you choose the “Comprehensive” Track, you will be able to attend two leadership workshops in addition to two remote service projects on Northeastern’s Boston campus. If you choose “Intensive” Track, you will travel to an off-campus site in one of Boston’s communities where you will have the chance to work on a longer service project and an integrated leadership workshop.

Please join us in making this Martin Luther King Jr. Day a day ON, not a day off!  If you have have any questions, please contact brockton.youth@gmail.com.
