Do Something and HP Announces Green Your School Challenge
Do Something and HP invites teams of U.S. students to help protect the environment and fight climate change by participating in the Green Your School campaign. Students are invited to create and implement team projects to help make their school campuses more eco-friendly. Projects will be assessed on a number of criteria, including the number of people involved; creativity, innovation, and use of technology; and awareness raised. Four winners will be selected to receive a $1,000 grant and an HP Pavilion DM1 laptop. One grand-prize winner will receive a $5,000 grant and five HP Pavilion DM1 laptop computers. Other prizes include scholarships of $1,000 each, mini -laptop computers, and smartphones. The Corporation for National and Community Service kicked off its 2011 AmeriCorps grant competition by releasing two funding notices for organizations interested in using national service as a solution to critical problems facing our communities and our nation. The total funding available will be set by Congress through the appropriations process now underway. If the President’s fiscal year 2011 budget request is fully funded, the agency anticipates approximately $311 million to be available for new, recompeting, and continuation grants in all of the AmeriCorps State and National grant categories, and $1 million for AmeriCorps planning grants.
Deadeline: January 25, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Successful applicants will be notified in June 2011.

NEA Foundation Learning & Leadership Grants support public school teachers, public education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education for one of two purposes. Grants to individuals fund participation in high-quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes or action research; grants to groups fund collegial study, including study groups, action research, lesson study, or mentoring experiences for faculty or staff new to an assignment. Maximum award: $2,000 for individuals and $5,000 for groups engaged in collegial study. Eligibility: public school teachers grades K-12; public school education support professionals; or faculty and staff at public higher education institutions.

The NEA Foundation Student Achievement Grants provide funds to improve the academic achievement of students by engaging in critical thinking and problem-solving that deepen knowledge of standards-based subject matter. The work should also improve students’ habits of inquiry, self-directed learning, and critical reflection. Maximum award: $5,000. Eligibility: practicing U.S. public school teachers, public school education support professionals, or faculty or staff at public higher education institutions.

Office Depot supports local nonprofit organizations that directly affect the health, education and welfare of children. Office Depot is accepting applications for its Taking Care of Kids & Schools Grants Program. Funds should be used to directly provide services. For financial donations, organizations must be a nonprofit with an established track record of community advocacy. The maximum award is $10,000. Special consideration will be given to programs that serve a diverse population in local or regional communities; build social, academic, leadership, and/or life skills in early adolescents (primarily ages 13-18); show positive results against a demonstrated community need; and reach at-risk children in working families.
